We speak with returning guest Monica Laurence about how leaders can recognize luck & opportunities as they emerge. She’s a bestselling author, TEDx speaker, global entrepreneur, and business strategist.
It’s one thing to recognize luck and opportunity in hindsight. But in the volatile, uncertain, and complex world, recognizing luck and opportunities as they’re emerging can make all the difference in what becomes possible in the future.
When Monica Laurence joined us in 2023, we spoke about whether it’s possible to become “predictably lucky.” Since then, she has taken that thinking much further in her bestselling book, “Quantum Surfing: The Innovator’s Guide to Being Lucky, Aligned, and Unstoppable.” In this conversation, Monica connects the research about luck with her concept of “Quantum Surfing,” which includes shifting our mindsets and behaviors in a way that allows us to become more curious, present, and intuitive.
We discuss how small experiments can help leaders explore possibilities without abandoning sound judgment. To bring this to life, she shares the story of how one of her coaching clients applied a few of these concepts in a way that led to an unprecedented multi-million dollar deal. We then discuss three immediately useful ideas for listeners to experiment with to recognize luck and opportunities, as they emerge.
Monica draws upon her experiences as an executive at Lucasfilm, Disney, and Accenture; as an international consultant; as a veteran of Silicon Valley startups with 7 successful exits; and as a holder of an MBA from UCLA. She’s also the founder of Tavola Fiji, a luxe private villa and venue for transformational retreats.
This week on Growth Igniters® Radio, we discuss:
- Monica’s definition of “quantum surfing,” and how this approach to developing “strategic intuition” can lead to the discovery of unprecedented opportunity in unexpected ways.
- How cultivating curiosity can turn an unexpected situation into a very different possibility.
- How small experiments can help leaders explore possibilities without abandoning sound judgment.
- Three tangible ideas for applying Monica’s principles of quantum surfing to find more opportunities, even as they’re emerging.
‘Quantum surfing’ is a way of understanding our world so that you can have greater impact with more joy and more ease.| Monica Laurence
