In this Quick Take, we discuss what CEOs can do to bridge the “Crisis of Trust” that was described in the 2026 Edelman Trust Barometer report.

We took special note of one particular finding from the survey: “73% of people think that CEOs are obligated to help bridge divides and facilitate trust building between individuals and groups of people who distrust each other. However, only 44% think they are doing well at that task.” We all need to find more ways to bridge trust gaps.
In this Quick Take, we share what we’ve learned about bridging trust gaps with employees, partners, customers, and other stakeholders. Highlights include: why building bridges requires the entire top leadership team (CEOs, C-Suite Executives, and Corporate Directors). We highlight the often underestimated ways a lack of trust can show up between individuals and groups (also known as “difficult people” or “those people”). We then discuss three immediately useful ideas for bridging trust gaps to move from “those people” to “us.”
“Trust gaps may be inevitable among people with different values, beliefs, and priorities. But they can be minimized.” Pam Harper
