In these turbulent times, many workplaces are more emotionally charged than ever. The common leadership wisdom is to focus people on “the work” of strategy and execution and hope that everyone ignores the tensions. However, this seldom happens on its own. CEOs and C-Suite leaders can play a critical role in leading people to work together to improve performance, even in an emotionally charged workplace.
That’s why we’re revisiting the conversation we had last year with Dina Denham Smith, as she released her book, “Emotionally Charged: How to Lead in the New World of Work.” Dina is an executive coach and owner of Cognitive Coaching and Consulting. With a 25-year proven track record of helping people and teams excel, she has worked with senior leaders and teams at premier brands such as Adobe, Google, and Netflix, among others. A prolific thought leader and 2026 Thinkers50 Radar honoree, Dina has written over 60 articles on leadership and career success for the Harvard Business Review, Fast Company, and many other major media. She’s also frequently featured in a variety of global outlets, including The Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, and many others.
Emotions are data. When you ignore them, you can miss out on information that can improve your performance. — Dina Denham Smith
