In a world filled with leadership events, what’s the key to creating your event so that it supports your most critical strategic outcomes? This is when reimagining what’s possible for leadership events can make all the difference.
For instance while keynotes can be transformational, what if a keynote doesn’t always need to look like a keynote in oder to accomplish the purpose of the event? This question from Seth Dechtman is what got us interested in speaking with him.
Seth is the founder of The Keynote Curators. He’s spent two decades on the business side of the speaking industry as a speaker strategist and creative collaborator. He has focused on making events unforgettable for brands like Apple, Amazon, and Coca-Cola. From securing top-tier talent like Magic Johnson, Richard Branson, and so many others, to managing every logistical detail. He helps event professionals find the ideal speaker to match their message, mission, and momentum.
During our conversation, Seth explains why he thinks of a conference or executive meeting as a vehicle for communicating ideas, shifting mindsets, and creating connections. We explore how this perspective changes the way leaders think about choosing keynote speakers, designing events, and taking intelligent risks with new formats. Seth also introduces his Keynote Compass, a tool designed to encourage more strategic thinking about what an event needs to accomplish. Seth brings these ideas to life with a story about a national sales leadership event that took an unconventional approach.
We also discuss three immediately useful ideas for increasing the impact of keynotes and leadership events, from clarifying what you want to accomplish to involving speakers more deeply before and after the event.
“Today’s event environment requires and demands a lot more creativity, a lot more strategy, and a lot more intention and purpose around connecting.” – Seth Dechtman
