As the business world keeps evolving, many companies are already reimagining top leadership roles to reflect new needs. The challenge is that the search for top leadership is changing, and finding the right candidates to fit these needs may require a new approach.
That’s why we invited executive search veteran Jane Howze back to Growth Igniters® Radio. Jane is Managing Director and Founder of The Alexander Group, an international retained executive search firm. With more than 40 years of experience recruiting executives across industries and leadership positions, she brings a unique perspective on how the expectations of CEOs, C-suite executives, and boards are changing.
It’s been nearly ten years since our first conversation about emerging trends in top leadership at that time, and we start our conversation with an update of how much business needs have changed over the past decade.
It’s one thing to live through these changes, and quite another thing to reflect on their impacts. For instance, who would have imagined looking for a Chief AI Officer ten years ago? Back then, some CEOs of major companies were still getting used to being on LinkedIn!
From there, we discuss how top leadership teams are thinking more broadly about executive roles through the lens of where the business is going, and what the leadership role will need to accomplish three to five years from now. In response to these emerging needs where there is not a large pool of candidates with exact experience, Jane shares where AI can help executive search, and where human judgement still matters. We also discuss her out-of-box approach to search and recognizing the value of an unconventional candidate. She brings this all to life with her story of working with a client who discovered that an unconventional executive candidate was just the right fit for their needs. We conclude by discussing the importance of an executive’s fit with the team and three immediately useful ideas for increasing executive team success.
This week on Growth Igniters® Radio, we discuss:
- Jane’s view on how executive search has changed as the business environment has evolved
- How looking beyond the usual candidate profile for a role can open up new possibilities
- Where AI can help executive search — and where human judgment still matters
- Three immediately useful ideas for increasing executive team success
You’ll make better hiring decisions if you “push the clutch down” a little bit and think a little bit more broadly. | Jane Howze
