In this week’s Quick Take, we discuss why it’s time to re-imagine leadership, not just once, but continuously.
Have you ever experienced a moment that made you realize how easy it is to overlook how the world keeps changing right under our noses as so much is happening all at once? For instance, we were recently reminded of how easy it is to take for granted the profound changes in telecom when we came across an old-fashioned glass-enclosed phone booth in a speakeasy-style cocktail lounge in Manhattan. As mobile phones became the norm, New York City removed its last working phone booth in May, 2022. It was sent to the Museum of the City of New York for their “Analog City” exhibit.
What’s next for telecommunication? The answer continues to evolve.

The same can be said of leadership. Like the telephone booth, many best practices for decision-making about strategy and execution were designed for a slower, more predictable era. With generative AI, geopolitical upheaval, demographic shifts, and rapid communication cycles as the norm, realities can change in a heartbeat. Thoughtfully reimagining your approach to leadership not only honors your vision for tomorrow, it also honors human perceptiveness, imagination and wisdom. This supports today’s growth while also creating opportunities for business innovation that can enable you to claim your company’s future.
Where can you start to thoughtfully reimagine leadership? Listen to our 12-minute conversation. We contrast the traditional leadership playbook with examples of what we call the “Growth Igniters® Mindset.” This includes discussing why, in the face of uncertainty and complexity, going beyond familiar approaches to developing strategy can enable you to more quickly discover emerging trends. We also give examples of how the leaders we call ‘Growth Igniters’ co-create new value and foster wholehearted commitment with a wider range of stakeholders, despite (or even because of) the twists and turns.
