Just in time for National Grilling Month in the U.S. and the Fourth of July holiday, we challenge the conventional wisdom that conversations at gatherings need to be limited to small talk. As an example of creating more meaningful connections, we revisit our “Fan Favorite” conversation with Gena Scurry, visionary leader, educator, and creator of the “Over Coffee” Game.
While small talk can be pleasant, it can also be limiting. Revealing a bit more of ourselves and asking thoughtful questions to learn more about what others have shared can enable us to discover new interests and ideas. It can even lead to unexpected opportunities for personal and professional growth. This has definitely been the case for us.
Beyond social gatherings, especially in the AI world, it’s more important than ever to create meaningful connections with people. These are the conversations that can strengthen the mutual trust, collaboration, and commitment it takes to lead bold innovation and transformational company growth.
To bring this idea to life, we’re revisiting our 2024 holiday episode featuring our conversation with Gena Scurry. We discuss what inspired her to create the game in a way that challenges conventional wisdom about creating deeper connections; Gena’s stories about the impact of her game in both social and business settings; and three immediately useful ideas for you to get the most benefit from the “Over Coffee” game.
